My Background and Education
I was born and raised in Beijing, China. As both my parents are professors in art and architecture, I inherited their passion in intellectual and academic pursuits. By the time I was ready for college, I knew architecture was what I wanted to study.
I left China and attended Virginia Tech, where I received my Bachelor of Architecture, focusing on designing educational spaces and family housing projects. As part of my undergraduate thesis, I designed a mixed child-adult daycare space that focused on unifying experience for both children and the elderly in a cohesive and enjoyable way. The architecture revolved around fragments of urban daily experiences within the context of the space, as opposed to a singular building.
After college, I wanted to further explore design, but from the digital perspective, looking at core issues of design thinking, special reasoning, and problem solving.
I developed my passion for data-based design and creative computing at Northeastern University, where I earned a Master of Fine Art in Information Design and Visualization.
I love the intersections of data, front-end coding, and visuals. With my background in architecture, I am uniquely prepared to handle complex design projects, using my understanding of both the physical and digital spaces.
While attending Northeastern, I worked in the MIT Design Lab on research and design projects, and I helped explore the design possibilities brought to the forefront in tech projects for Philips and Samsung.
My latest work has been for Schema Design for 1.5 years. As a research and design firm, Schema focuses on the intersection of design thinking and data visualization.
